Chesapeake Minerals uses select grades of quartz gravel supplied by York Building Products’ adjacent Belvedere plant where more than 10,000 tons of alluvial sand and gravel are processed daily.

Select quartz gravel is crushed, washed and classified into multiple low-iron quartz commodities. Glass sand (40 x 140 US Mesh) is then dried and separated from remaining iron-bearing magnetic minerals to make an ultra-low iron glass sand (Principio White). Following magnetic separation, our glass sand is 99.998% SiO2. Two new grinding mills (one wet and one dry-grind) were added to the circuit and commissioned in the second quarter of 2024 to produce high-purity silica powders to customer specifications.
